Garden design

Garden design can scale to your needs: from rejuvenating a tired corner to reworking the whole garden, from gently tweaking a mature garden to filling a new-build plot with plants and structure. My approach is tailored to each project, but below are guidelines for different options and stages:

Concept design

A concept design is like a garden design-lite. It’s a scale drawing that will show the features of your new garden and how they interact. This process includes:

  • A garden design consultation, usually a chat in-person to create a garden design brief

  • A topographical survey of your garden if required

  • Preparation of a concept design. The concept design is an accurate design for ideas and inspiration, but does not include all the details and specifications necessary for construction. It will show the layout and materials of hard landscaping, soft landscaping, pot and planter placement, and the positions of key trees and shrubs.

Planting design

A fully detailed, scaled planting design for an area of, or the entire, garden. This would include:

  • A planting design consultation, usually a chat through what you’re looking for and visit to the garden

  • A survey of the garden or area to be planted - this will vary in complexity

  • A detailed planting plan and list.

  • I can also offer a partial planting plan for borders that are looking for a refresh, or planting list if a full plan is unnecessary.

I can additionally provide plant sourcing, planting, and a maintenance plan.

Full garden design

The whole process to give you designs ready for a landscaper to create.

  • A garden design consultation, usually a chat in-person to create a garden design brief

  • A topographical survey of your garden if required

  • Preparation of a concept design

  • Preparation of a detailed outline plan, including levels, hard landscaping detail and elevations as appropriate

  • Scope of works, setting out plan and lighting and construction drawings are also available if required

  • A planting plan if desired
